La familia Greene se ofrecieron voluntariamente a tomar a la niña al cuidado de ellos e incorporarla como parte de su familia. Hershel siendo su abuelo postizo y principal fuente de sabiduría. Maggie es su figura materna, aquella en la que siempre puede hablar con confianza. Beth fue su hermana mayor, siendo prácticamente su única amiga desde siempre. Sin la capacidad de escuchar los sonidos de la granja, Anne aprendió a percibir su entorno a través de otros sentidos: el tacto, la vista y las vibraciones, obteniendo una habilidad necesaria para la supervivencia.
