Ballad Of A Sick Girl

This narrative non-fiction memoir is a first person account of a bright young woman's rather louche desent into a grim life of substance abuse and sexual exploitation-the majority of which takes place during the early aughts within New York City's infamous downtown nightlife scene. As she bounces from city to city and suitor to husband-always surrounded by a diverse and well-decorated cast of friends and enemies-she comes face to face with oppurtunities other people only dream of; oppurtunities that she's convinced herself she's not worthy of. When self-sabotage leads to her first "rock bottom", Ashley returns to the small southern town where her anguished childhood lay rooted. The demons of past trauma defeat her shortly after, and Ashley is pronounced dead on June 23rd, 2018.
Nine minutes later, she wakes up. Everything has changed.
