Her entire life, Melanie had learned the hard way that you couldn't trust people, that there was always something lurking in the shadows. After what she had gone through with Grant Ward, that statement was more true than it had ever been. She had promised herself that she wouldn't see Ward, that she wouldn't listen to the lies that she thought he would tell her. Yet when her team needs her to, she breaks that promise to herself. Ward knows secrets about Melanie's life that she didn't even know, information about the people from her past, including who experimented on her when she was just a teenager.
