The name Trimbakeshwar (Trimbakeshwar, Trimbakeshwar) is derived from 'Tryambak', which means the Lord who has three eyes.
It is the place of Tri-sandhya Gayatri, the birthplace of Lord Ganesha and the first Nath of the Nath sect. Simhastha Mahatmya mentions that Lord Rama had traveled to Trimbakeshwar.
Trimbakeshwar is considered to be one of the most sacred places for Shradh.
Nirana Sindhu mentions Trimbakeshwar as the place where the Sahyadri Mountains and the Godavari River are present, which purify the entire planet Earth.

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is unique in many ways. It ties together the three of the trinity: Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva. The lingam comprises three small, thumb-like lingams, each a member of the Trimurti.

They are swayambhu, or manifest themselves. The three lingams are usually covered by a silver mask, which bears the faces of the trinity. A gold mask is worn on special occasions, and a jeweled crown is placed over it. This crown covered with precious gems dates back to the time of Pandavas.
