In 2051 after the invention of "Just Breathe", a type of inhaler that relieves any stress or anxieties in anyone the world became a much calmer place. People no longer had to call into work when they felt overwhelmed, simply because they never felt overwhelmed. Now with the inventions of "Breathers" and "Smile more", patches that can be stuck onto someone's arm and deposit large amounts of serotonin into them (similar to caffeine patches), the world has become happier and a healthier place...Or so you'd think. Separated by five different cities, five new 18-year olds navigate the struggles of adulthood in this strange world, after developing unusual side effects after they decide to quit their addictions to the "happier and healthier" ways of living.
