Manchester United's Premier League match at Brentford on Tuesday has been deferred because of various COVID-19 cases at the Old Trafford club, the league announced.
Manchester United had announced a "modest number" of cases found among first-team staff and players on Sunday, with the squad who ventured out to Norwich City for their Premier League game on Saturday kept separated from the individuals who had the virus.
"The decision was taken following guidance from medical advisers due to the exceptional circumstances of an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak within Manchester United's squad," the league said in a statement.
"First team operations at the club's Carrington Training Complex were closed down today to help control the outbreak and minimize risk of further infection among players and staff," they added.
The Premier League found a record 42 cases of COVID-19 among players and staff at different clubs over the previous week.
"We respect the Premier League's decision and acknowledge that the health and safety of both clubs' players and staff must always come first.
"We wish everyone affected a speedy recovery and look forward to hosting Manchester United at the Brentford Community Stadium in the new year."
