A star student and a future valedictorian. His parents plan him to go to an Ivy League college and study business, get a good-paying job, marry a lovely woman and have children. Max Jamison comes from a dysfunctional family. Since his wife left, his father has been an abusive alcoholic, and his son came out as gay. Max has to work multiple jobs to keep afloat. He is failing school; his grades are dangerously low. He wants nothing more than to graduate and leave this town and his father behind. But, with all of his failing grades, he is in danger of not being able to graduate. So, when the principal offers to enroll him in the tutoring program, he has no choice but to accept.
