Fear sparked the revolution. Sheltered in the walls of her large manor estate, Tabitha has never known a life beyond the privileges granted to her by her father, King Flesher. Growing up as a princess, Tabitha's been taught of the victory of her father when he won the war against the rebels, gaining his place as King of Amity. Tabitha has been fed the lies of her father for her entire seventeen years of life, and only by a chance meeting does she finally find out the truth. On the night of her seventeenth birthday, the rebels return and storm the manor of which Tabitha has never stepped foot beyond. During the battle that shortly ensued, Tabitha was taken as hostage by the rebels, and she was brought back to their base camp where she met their leader, Kaden. Kaden's rude, arrogant, ruthless, and so heartbreakingly handsome that Tabitha fears she might give him anything he so desires. That includes her heart. But Kaden isn't looking for love. He's looking for a way to free his people who are being oppressed by the tyrant King Flesher, and he's more than willing to use Fleshers' daughter to jump start the war that could be more than the end of enslavement. It could be the end of all life.

After her father and brother were killed in the failed rebellion, Cecily never imagined that things could get worse. But one night, soldiers storm her small village and show her how wrong she was. As part of their punishment for daring to rise against the king, soldiers are permitted to ransack the rebel villages, destroying or taking whatever they want, and killing or capturing whoever they want. In a split second, Cecily's world is turned upside down as she is ripped away from her family and the only life she's ever known. She has no idea where she's headed or what will happen to her once she arrives, and she's terrified of finding out. Will she even survive? Did her family survive when they tried to defend her? Will she ever see them again if they're all lucky enough to stay alive? One man will determine her fate and if he's anything like the others, Cecily is positive that will mean nothing good for her.
