Mermaids were the temptresses of death; for some, they were a colony of sea devils luring unguarded sailors to dangerous water, sending them to their death.

Mermaids were beautiful sea fairies, others said; magical creatures whose nature was kind and gentle, thus violence towards them would severely be frowned upon.

But who could testify of the truth, if even the very existence of these beings was nothing more than a fairy tale?

To the east of the Immortal Sea was a prosperous port city, known by the name "Xian Jing", the "Heavenly Capital". A place where trades and cultures flourished the most with visitors from all corners of the world, little did people know that a part of this marvelous town was house to the vilest plague of the sea, plunderers and murderers: the pirates.

It was here that the story began; of a little tramp abandoned by his family, and a mysterious young man of unknown origin who graced him with kindness. By the twist of fate the two met; would it be a curse or a blessing lying in wait at the end of their path?

The boy had never been scourged by dread, not really, untouched still of startling agony to become his reality. He spotted the imposing cliffside meaning to change that by mere accident, kept in defiant remembrance still of this heavenly music descended upon Earth from Heaven, magnificent, majestic and entrancing, this blue ship which had came last night to conjure mystery and great brilliance vibrating with splendor and glory born, like summer sunshine brought unto gloomy night, unlike anything ever heard of. He paused in thought to look at what was dangling from these rocketed walls, instilled immediately by mortal agony. What encountered him there was awful, horrific, spun from his nightmare to turn to atrocious truth. They left a message for him, these strangers, a message for all mankind. All the people from the town were nailed on the colossal rock with obsidian spikes the size of fists, hidden in the darkness as horror always lurked there within. Blood, everywhere. The spikes ripped skin open, tore their bodies apart to let it be a grotesque image, the self-portrait of Death itself. Stiff pale limbs, grossly tangled together, a myriad of heads decorating empty space. A few mutilated legs and arms lay motionless on the bottom of it, of the mere terror, the waves had yet to reach and clean the crime scene, crimson rocks and red sand carnation furthermore. The details swam and blurred his view. He was thankful, for a glimpse sufficed a lifetime. When the dark ship came, it didn't only warn the people of the Destruction following behind, they carried it themselves, bestowing it willingly and with intent, purpose, unknown and arbitrary as it may seem regardless. People rumored among their crowds that they were in fact the cause, the real Bringer of Death. The Harbingers of Cruelty. The Black Squad, Side of Doom. Known perhaps better by their most famous name, the Skeleton Crew. _ updated irregularly, because life is hard

"Well, what do we have 'ere?" A hoarse voice stated above me, making my eyes glaze upward in the direction of the culprit, only to freeze at the icy, crystallized irises of the owner. There, above me, was the man I saved, looking insanely at me with crazed eyes and a mocking tone. His hair was stuck on his forehead and the smudged eyeliner created a trace of dark lining on his face, making him look hauntingly. The man gazed at my form in amazement and wonder before they captured mine again, sending an icy cold sensation coursing through my vein, making me shiver. He was frightening and breathtaking at the same time. "A mermaid, aye?" he questioned as his gaze trailed down the length of my body. Grabbing my arms with one hand, he caressed my face gently, his thumb grazing my parted lips before they went below my hair twirling a single piece. I struggled from underneath him when he let the hair graze my breast underneath my blackened hair. Grinning at me madly, my eyes narrowed distastefully as his hand touched my crimson scales, stroking the tail almost lovingly. "Is this how you repay your saviour, pirate?"
