Letter 1 Dear Dad, Hi Dad. It's Zoey. I'm now sixteen and mom still won't talk about you. I've waited ten years for you to come home. But you never did. I want to know about you, and I want you to know about me. Even though I don't remember you that well, I still love you. I would give my last thousand words to you. So, I will be writing these letters all my life even if you don't write back. I've needed you, and I still do. Mom won't say anything to me about you. I love you. It would mean everything in the world to me if you could come home. Please. Love your daughter, Zoey Gavril

"I'm sorry, James. The tests were positive. You have cancer," the doctor said. In that moment, I felt my entire world crumble. Everything I knew, everything I loved, I would have to say goodbye to. How was this even fair? I'm 23 years old, I haven't lived yet, haven't experienced much, and yet I was going to die. I might have just given up completely if it wasn't for her. She is the only reason I am still alive, yet she can't know of my disease. She can't know anything. I just have to pretend that everything is going to be okay before I have to say goodbye, before I run out of time.
