"I thought a tree that symbolises life would be a fitting companion to Death."

Thaleara Sullivan has a debt to pay. Five years ago, she was found by Glenham's thieves guild and provided a life. Little did she know that she would have to return the gold for what she was given... and more.

She's been scrambling around the city of Glenham as a thief ever since, looking for jobs to pay back her indenture. But when she steals a ring with the symbol of magic from a stranger, she realises she made a mistake. The symbol and magic itself has been long since outlawed in the city of Glenham, and use or even association with it is punishable by death.

Thaleara sells the ring the first chance she gets, but the stranger now wants it back, and he is willing to pay five million gold for it. Thaleara can't say no. There's only one problem.

The ring was given to the king as a gift from a foreign diplomat, and they'll have to break into the palace to get it back.

"Then let's start planning a heist."

Esme had one big fear in life: being captured as a thief by the city's guardsmen and being executed for her crimes, and that so heavily weighed on her mind that she increased her risks by being distracted in the middle of a heist. That's when she runs into Althalos Fourthborn: Inner Circle Guardsman, one of the many princes of the realm, an Aelif (Dark Elf, local dialect)...and her betrothed by treaty. (That was something her almost human mind could not handle.) So she calls off the heist, gets demoted into a far more risky job, learns the true bitter depth of what this treaty's bond is like, and lands safely by her prince's side....sort of. There were people who still wanted to end her life, even if she was in what most people would call a Happily Ever After. That and her prince had his own living fears that were gnawing at any chance they had. That and she might just lose her mind from everyday boredom. But the one she couldn't wrap her all-too human mind around was that she would one day grow wings and fly away from her almost Happily Ever After to live in a hive with ancestors more alien than a hottie with pointed ears and abandonment issues. ~~~~ Yes, there are adult themes in this book, and difficult subjects, but nothing is excessive, as this is probably my simplest story. So, trigger warnings: A history of assault. Occasional vulgar language. References to partial cannibaliam. Extremely mild, light, and rare sex scenes. At least one elitist mentality. ~~~~ Ages of MC/ML: Esme: Apparent age of 24, roughly 20 years lived (mostly human). Althalos: Apparent age of 30, roughly 65 years lived (Elves mature slower).

⚔️This is an incomplete, unedited version of the story. I am in the process of finishing and editing this book that will be available on Amazon when it is complete. ✨ ⚠️Read at your own risk. Legends tell of fearsome beasts, dashing rouges, and hordes of gold. Stories that capture the imagination, of all who dare to read them. This one is no exception, but far more than what meets the eye. For deep within the streets and canals of the great trading city of Talvos. A prophecy will come to life, and change the fates of two young denizens of this fair city forever. While the nobles hide behind their walls and houses, while the merchants count their gold, and while the gangs of the city take refuge in their taverns, brothels, and boxing dens. All unaware of the chaos that shall ensue, in only a mere three days time. Their lives will lay on the shoulders of these two unlikely allies. Tara, a thief known for her cunning, grand escapes, and her reputation as a first rate mage. She has only one goal on her mind, survive the perils of the streets and keep from being tossed into a cell. Then there is Andreas, noble, sharp, a perfect weapon of the king as the tyrant's skilled assassin. A path he chose, to keep at bay the gilded cage that waits for him. Challenges that they will face, along with a pirate queen hunting for a nameless treasure, and a ghostly rouge stealing from the kingdom's elite. Look no further for a story where legends lurk in the shadows, and doors that lead to secrets untold. Where gods walk the earth while monsters haunt the seas. Something evil has been lurking in the shadows for a long time. Books burned, memories gone, there is nothing to warn them of the upcoming troubles looming ahead. But before any of that happens, we're met with five dragons; fire, frost, dark, tide, rock. Broken and tattered spirits. Wandering endlessly through a shattered world. Though, through trial and error, they learn that even with being broken by the Scales around them, anyone can have what it takes to change the world for the better. This book does have some warnings, the main characters aren't the happiest of people. I wrote this book to kinda say that even the worst of people can have a happy ending, but I can't draw people. So it's about dragons, obviously... (Ended without an ending)
