As with all things writing, I find my mind sometimes wanders into the strangest of situations. Characters pop into my mind doing the oddest things. Today it was the turn of Santa, reimagined for a Fantasy world with a little help from some old characters from past games of Dungeons and Dragons.

This is a story adaptation of my group's real dnd homebrew campaign! The story follows three main characters: Orion, an apathetic Drow from a Nobel family of assassins that he's recently disowned. He's cutthroat, tactical, and most importantly, he works alone. Faentom, a bubbly and outgoing Eladrin Elf who grew up in a small village in the feywilds. She was adopted and grew up with no other Eladrin to teach her about herself and she's spent her whole life craving to find out. And Eli, a chronically anxious Half-Elf cleric from the Twin Alters monastery. As a bastard his family never truly saw him as one of their own but he was forced to step up nonetheless to one day take over his fathers position as head cleric. Living vastly different lives in vastly different lands, the three of them somehow wake up in a strange hovel with no memory of having known each other, how they got there, or where they are. But wasting no time at all a mission is thrust upon them, a dangerous entity has been disrupting the feywilds, strange attacks and kidnappings, and polluting the waters. Will the group accept the mission or make their own mission of trying to figure out what happened to them and returning back to their previous lives? What will they discover, who will they meet along the way, and will they discover, if anything, about themselves?

Usually, people Carol's age are getting married, buying their first house, getting their first pet, etc. Her younger sister's doing all that. Good for her right? And she's doing it with Carol's ex. It has been a year since they broke up and he has been with her sister ever since and well, I'm sure you can guess the tea for that one. But it's Christmas time so 'tis the season to be jolly. She'll be seeing her two favorite people at the family reunion. Where she has promised everyone that she has happily moved on, and has someone to introduce to the family... except- she doesn't. During a trip to the grocery store, she bumps into one of the finest men she saw, which wasn't through her phone screen. So, obviously her first reaction was to ask him to be her plus one for the family reunion and to pretend that they're a couple. He Agrees! On the condition that she'll help him become Santa Claus? Weird but she agrees to do exactly that. Nick keeps claiming that he's Santa Claus's Son and that there's this whole Christmas wonderland where people compete to be Santa...she just goes with it. I mean his good looks had to come with a sacrifice right? Little did she know what she had signed up for...

My fan fic "A Christmas Carol Reimagined" is the tale of a miserly middle aged man--a friend to no one--who is scared into realizing the folly of his ways when he is visited by three ghosts (past, present, and future). He then vows to be compassionate toward his fellow man and through his good deeds, he redeems himself--and he comes to know the meaning of love. My story here is my "mash up" of "A Christmas Carol" (original story by Charles Dickens) with Elizabeth Gaskell's "North & South", JRR Tolkien's (via Sir Peter Jackson's films of) "The Hobbit", and is set in the 1850's. Ever since I plopped myself down on Santa's lap at my office party and made a special wish, it's been one yule disaster after another! And now, I'm stuck in this sleigh ride from hell with that red-suited nightmare, forced to follow him wherever he jingles. Sure, he might be a total angel under that fake beard-mysterious and all-but I'm not about to let myself get wrapped up like some Christmas present under the tree. My brain's still in one piece, thanks. So, seriously, sweet baby Jesus, how did a nice executive assistant like me end up sleighing through this wild holiday misadventure full of danger, romance, and all the holly jolly chaos of Christmas?!
