A shiver is sent through my body as his eyes lock onto mine. "I don't need a mate. Especially a weak human." Despair makes its way up to the surface, but I quickly regain my posture. "I will always catch you." Tears spilled down my cheeks. "You're scaring me," I whispered, voice shaking. His breath hitched-barely, but enough that I felt it. For a moment, just a moment, the iron in his grip softened. His hand slid from my waist to my wrist, holding firm but no longer crushing. Then his other arm locked around my upper body, strong enough that escape was impossible. "Aurora," he said, his voice rough, "you cannot run from a bond like this." I shook my head violently. "I'm human! I'm not meant for- for you!" His chest rumbled behind me, a low, frustrated sound. "You are meant for me," he said, lips brushing the shell of my ear. "Fate does not make mistakes."
