They became as close as brother and sister. They ran and played, climbed trees, worked on cars, and read Race Car magazines. She looked up to him as the brother she never had. She taught him how to be a redneck Southerner and he taught her how to take care of herself.
As time went by the feelings of friendship became more. For a while, it was difficult to be friends. JP got a little too into the Redneck life. He let people lead him down a dark path that Amlyne could not help him out of, or so she thought. He ran with a rough crowd that scared Amlyne. She not only had to fight her own feelings but also had to fight with her parents. They did not approve of JP. They saw him as bad influence and dangerous. So while Amlyne was still under 18, she had to do as she was told. All that was soon to change.
