Micah's Gift
When I was a kid I always knew Christmas was coming when my dad brought out the Christmas Count-down Case. It had 25 compartments with doors, each holding a different ornament. We would open one door each night of December while we read the serialized Christmas story from the local newspaper. As part of the #justwriteit 30 day contest, I'm bringing back that tradition with a serialized story. Each day, right up to Christmas, I'll be adding a chapter of the story. "Micah's Gift" is told from the perspective of a 15 year old boy from a family touched by tragedy and challenge. Micah will do whatever it takes to make his three year old brother's Christmas wish come true. Because of the holiday involved, there are some Christian references but this is not a religious story. Learning to Love Christmas
"Hey Elle," Gavin said in a low tone, wiping the counter clean. "I bet a month's worth of dirty dish duty that you can't turn Scrooge into Santa's head elf in three weeks." Noelle Winters loves Christmas. She loves catching snowflakes on her tongue on snow days, reading by the fireplace with a big cup of hot cocoa. He claims that celebrating the holidays are useless and a waste of his time. So what happens when Elle's boss hires Oliver to work at Gingersnaps? A nuclear explosion of candy canes and sugar plums, that's what. She knows that no one's supposed to be unhappy on Christmas. Not even the grumpy Christmas hater named Oliver. With the help of her best friend Carol, she writes a list of things to try and get Oliver in the spirit. She's determined to show him what he's missed out on so far like; "Go ice skating", "Have a snowball fight", and "Sing Christmas Carols". Once upon a time, I was your typical good girl, doing my job like a total elf star, no complaints. Even with the little "gift" I was born with (aka my disability), I handled life pretty well. But let me tell you, luck's never been my plus-one. What am I talking about? Oh, just my lovely name-and the Christmas curse that comes with it! Every year, without fail, while my family's out decking the halls, I'm over here getting snowed under with the worst disasters. So, yeah, all I want for Christmas is for this nightmare of a season to be over. But this year? Oh, I've really hit the Christmas tree topper. Ever since I plopped myself down on Santa's lap at my office party and made a special wish, it's been one yule disaster after another! And now, I'm stuck in this sleigh ride from hell with that red-suited nightmare, forced to follow him wherever he jingles.
