A 16 year old girl living her life like any other girl would. Hazel eyes, perfect teeth, mid-length brown hair, and about 5"6. She was with her father when the bomb hit, she didn't know it'd be her last time seeing him ever again. They were messing with his newest invention which he was waiting for an approved patent. It was a video camera that could hold as many videos and pictures as it could. They took one last picture with it together and then light flashed before her eyes and her dad pushed her under the work table as she saw her dad disappear in thin air like dust. We are one of ten different compounds placed at strategic locations around the US. It's been thirteen years since the virus overtook humanity, turning about ninety percent of us into zombies. I'm not sure how it started exactly; that's classified information. I do know that in order to save what was left of the human race, the president at the time took a bunch of really smart people and kids and relocated them into new 'protected' cities. My father was one of those really smart people. I was only five at the time, but I knew what was happening." Within the walls of the compound, Jay makes stupid mistakes, mistakes even she doesn't understand, putting everyone inside at risk. All because she can't shoot someone. They said that "Changing is part of LIFE.", at least that's what the CSD (Change and Save Department) used to say. They thought they created a "cure". A cure to save many people's lives from sickness, cancer, and all. Unfortunately... They were wrong. It was fine at first... However, their first test subject? It was for no good. Instead of a cure, they made a "virus". The virus is incurable for now. Many people protested against the CSD and the government. It changed.. but it was never saved... They said that once they bit you, in an hour the virus will spread throughout your body and kill you, then you'll be alive but not like you used to be. There are many survivors, but there are also many who have been turned into monsters. They call these monsters, "zombies". The CSD promised that they'll find a cure, but much-lost hope, lost hope for being alive, lost hope for survival. A 17 yrs. the old girl was in between that. Everything might sound and look horrible but she never lost hope for survival. "I'm running out of food.." she kept on talking to herself since there was no one but her. She saw a grocery store nearby so she checked it out if there were food, and fortunately, there was. She stuffed the food in her bag until she heard something. "Is someone there?" She asked, she hoped it wasn't what she thought about but there it was. The zombie's legs were twisted so it will have a hard time catching her. However, she never encountered that close. She stuffed the last food in her bag and ran. She ran to the girl's restroom. When she opened the door there were zombies! It almost caught her but fortunately, nothing happened to her. She ran back but there were more! "Please don't say this is how I'm going to die!" She said to herself. Is she going to die? Who will she meet? Will they survive this cruel world?? I stood there leaning against the door for a second. Then screams reached my ear. I looked to where it came from and saw a girl at the other end of the hall laying on the ground with a gaping hole in her stomach. Three other students had ripped away at the girl's insides and were chewing it up. One paused for a second and looked up at me. He stood up and I panicked. I knew him. He was in my chorus class. August was his name. He had blond, curly hair, blue eyes, and was probably the tallest person in the entire school. August opened his now bloody mouth and let out a screech that sent chills down my spine. He leaped over the other two cannibals and the now dead girl and broke into a sprint. As soon as he leaped I had also started running. I made it out of the 300 hall and hid behind the vending machine that stood at the entrance of the hall. Seconds later, August was standing just inches from me. He looked around and I stayed as quiet and still as I possibly could. I didn't even breathe. After what seemed like years of waiting, August turned back toward the dead girl and walked out if sight. I stayed where I was for a little bit longer until my lungs demanded I start breathing again. Directly in front of me was the library and cafeteria. To the right of the cafeteria was the auditorium and the music hall. "If I could just make it to the chorus room maybe I'll find some of my friends," I thought to myself. I was about to take my first step when I looked down at my shoes. They were brand new and when I walked, they squeaked. I took my shoes off as quietly as I could. I had my Captain America socks on and I knew I'd have to take those off as well.
