Forgive Me, Aleah

She is a girl a year younger than me; I know the exact date and time of her birth by heart.

She is a girl who I followed anywhere but also dragged around with the intention of showing her new things.

She is a girl who I tried my best to carry over the muddiest of puddles so that her new shoes wouldn't get dirty. A girl who I struggled to carry and would fall backwards into the same puddle but tried my best to keep her elevated so that the muddy water wouldn't touch her.

She is a girl who I call my best friend; yet I always find myself mentally yelling at myself each time I do say she is.

She is a girl who often cries and exchanges secrets with me.

She is a girl I cherish with every last bit of my soul and heart.

She is Aleah Deirdre: the only person I will have engraved so deeply into my soul that if I am ever given a second life, she would be the first person I search for.
