Dana grows up in a world ravished by war and the bad guys won. The war ended with the deaths of the world's last hope of superhumans trying to stop the Arcane Order. As Dana grows up, she learns she has her own powers as an Empath. Wanting to help people, she becomes known for the powers she used to help people.
At her most desperate, she is approached by the famous Transcendent. The man offers her survival and power, she just has to be his wife. Begrudgingly she accepts his offer, but part of her barging is that she must take a special serum to enhance her powers and make her more powerful. The experiment nearly kills her, but makes her stronger. Now she must hide the full potential of her powers from her enemies at the door.
Over the course of five years, she is a miserable woman living like royalty. Her husband only married her for her powers and to have children. He cheats, abuses Dana, and she is alone and feeling powerless to do what she hoped to do, save the people from the Arcane Order.
An assassination attempt on her life causes fear, and her "loving" husband demands she have the best to protect her. A well-known Trancendant assassin is brought in to guard her. Her husband, satisfied that the man is a "living machine", lets the man guard her 24/7. But Dana, being an Empath, can feel the faint humanity still alive in the man. One night she heals his mind. Now with the man "Awake" he is no longer under control.
When her husband begins to notice the positive changes in her, he becomes violent, accusing her of cheating and even plotting to kill him. He finally threatens her life, and she finally snaps. With the help of her friends from the outside who are in a rebellion and the assassin they take on the Arcane Order

The experiment.
They used my vulnerability against me. They used that weapon, to make me accept their stupid idea. And I of course, accepted it, I didn't even know what they were going to do. They tugged and poked and even shoved their disgusting finger in your wound, just to see you cry. To see you change. No pitty in their eyes. They just continue. They drag you around with metal chains, hit you and turn you into a experiment. But I had enough of the tugging, the clawing, the moaning, the crying and pleading for them to stop, but simply feeding them with our pain. They turned me into something, that neither do they know what I am. Their afraid of me, of my reflexes, my strength. I killed a lot of them. They say I have a cold heart, that I don't feel nothing.
