Kicking sand into a black girl's fresh braids probably wasn't the best way to make friends for six-year-old Marshall Stone. In fact, that's how he found a rival.

Love Lewis has always disliked the boy that had her mother on a rampage when she came home with sandy hair in the first grade. She thought that would be the first and last she'd be seeing of him. Oh, how lucky she is to continue the rest of her elementary, middle, and high school years with him.

Imagine the relief she felt when they began attending different colleges - ten minutes away from each other but far enough for her. Two years of only having to see him at basketball games and the occasional party turned into the result of maybe his worst idea to date.

When Marshall Stone decides to rope her into a not-so-well-thought-out plan to fool his father and soon-to-be-step-mother into thinking he has a girlfriend, Love couldn't be more confused. She's sure he has girls falling at his feet, ready to throw themselves at him, completely willing to fake a relationship just for some alone time with him. So why her?

Unfortunately, Marshall doesn't even know the answer to that question.

But who said you can't find Love when you least expect it?

She leaves home one warm summer evening with nothing but a yellow backpack filled with her coveted dad's letters he's been sending her for the past months, and some bare necessities. She's determined to seek him out and go live with him down on the West Coast, where he has a temporary job. The last thing April expects is almost being hit by a car. The owner of the vehicle? Her classmate, Dave Rivera, a troubled boy whom she almost never talked to before, and who can't be more different than her. After making sure April is just a little banged-up, Dave strikes a deal with her: he'll help her get to the West Coast free of charge, as long as she doesn't report him to the cops. While sharing life stories and exchanging experiences, armed with the wisdom from her Dad's letters, April and Dave discover that they are a lot more alike than they originally thought. Sage Gibson wasn't prepared for his whole existence to be uprooted and moved away. He didn't love his life, but that didn't mean he wouldn't miss it. Now he's in a small town where he pretends not to notice the looks some people give him. Maybe it's the painted finger nails? He doesn't care all that much. He's too busy trying to figure himself out and how much of his past is affecting him. With his family to worry about and his own personal puzzle that is his mind, he doesn't have time to care about what people at school think of him. He's happy enough with his one new friend and gawking at her hot brother. (He will never admit that last part out loud.) That's all he needs. And if said hot brother wants to become friends too? Well, he won't complain. Marc Yamasaki is normally a quiet guy. He doesn't like to talk too much and everyone has just accepted that. He doesn't have much to say, so why try? He's too tired of trying to get people to care. When a new boy shows up, suddenly his interest is piqued. The freckled face boy is good at basketball and he's a little cute. Sure, he likes to talk a lot, but Marc finds it oddly adorable. The only slight problem is his hesitation to join the team, and the fact that he might be flirting with Aria, Marc's sister. He can't tell if he wants to hate or like this guy. Then he finds out he's gay? Cherry on top. So, what happens when the two boys get closer while playing basketball? Their friendship gets to feeling a little... odd. What will they become when a new tension starts to settle over them?

I was walking to my locker when I heard someone calling for somebody. "Hey! Little cutie!" They called. I kept waking, since no one noticed me and I doubted that it would've started then. It was a hallway full of cute girls, all of them much cuter than me, so why would they be calling for me? They whistled. "Shortie with the ponytail!" They called, their voice now closer to me. I still kept walking to my locker since there were still several other girls, who were taller than me but still relatively short, wearing ponytails. I felt a light tap on my shoulder once I got to my locker. I turned around and my breath caught in my throat at who was talking to me. Maximus King. The hottest guy in all of Hillside High. With his jet black hair that was always messy but still looked amazing, his steel grey eyes that all the girls talked about, his sharp jawline that could cut someone, his tall, six-foot five inches form that towered over me, and his strong form that could easily take out pretty much all of the guys in school, he was what every girl looked for. He had a bit of a bad reputation, well, a lot of a bad reputation, but most girls didn't care about that. I cared, and was very afraid of him and all of his friends except for Xander. In fact, if he had a reputation of sleeping around, I think I would've avoided him like the plague. Good thing he only flirted with girls and never slept, kissed, or touched them. "Hey, shortie, I was talking to you," he said with his deep voice. I cleared my throat after a few seconds of me gaping at him. "S-sorry. I-I didn't k-know," I squeaked. He chuckled. "I even said 'shortie with the ponytail!' yet you still didn't know." I gulped. "That's cute," he said. Amethyst Stone, a short, four-foot eleven inches girl that Maximus King has taken an interest to. When? You'll find out. Why? He could tell you, but don't get your hopes up. Will it work out? Read if you really want to know. 12/21/18- 8/8/19- 12/27/20
