"When Rome's in ruins, we are the lions."
I knew this song. It was Young Volcanoes by Fall Out Boy. I loved that song. I instantly began singing.
"Free of the coliseums."
"In poison places, we are anti-venom."
"We're the beginning of the end."
"Tonight the foxes hunt the hounds."
"It's all over now."
"Before it has begun."
"We've already won!"
"We are wild!"
"We are like young volcanoes!"
"We are wild!"
"Americana, exotica!"
"Do you wanna feel a little beautiful baby?"
"YEAH!"
We slowly started to sing louder and people gradually started looking at us. I've gotta say, Ashton wasn't bad at singing. He was really good. We were already standing and Ashton and I were kinda dancing. He kept twirling me. I was so into song that I didn't notice people gathering around us. I didn't notice people clapping to the song. I didn't notice it. Music was the one thing that could take all my worries away, and when I was with Ashton, it was even better.

Gangs. A girl. War. Fights. Love. Hate. Death. All words to describe the city of Athens. The most dangerous city in the country. But only those who have been there know that. Athens is not a place for tourism. Not many people who visit, make it out alive. Vicki, 16, has finally found a home willing to adopt her after 6 years of jumping from home to home, family to family, foster to foster. Some were good. Some bad. Some could, would, and did the unthinkable. But now she didnt have to deal with that. But she had no idea of the secrets that the friendly "welcome to Athens" sign hides. Or did she? She wasn't ever supposed to end up in the system. Or end up on her meds. She remembered nothing of her life before 10 years old. She had always knew something was missing, but this? This was more than she could ever handle remembering. **** "Wow, I thought it was just you guys and Artemis." "There's a whole world of gangs. There are gangs in every country, some even I don't know as a leader." "Is it tough being a leader?" "Some times. Especially when I have to deal with loss. But I also give some opportunities to people who need it. I've even given a homeless man a small job and it set him up for life." "That's cool. Are the Zusians tyrants. I mean were they?" something about the name doesn't shake me. It's stuck in my head for some reason. "They more are now. There's speculation that a kid got out safe and will one day take back the leadership, but after seeing the wreckage first hand, I don't think anybody left it alive," he says it. But he doesn't sound like he even believes himself. "Did the kid get out? Is it even slightly possible?" "Between you and me. I helped her escape. I know she got out. But I don't think she lived long after we lost contact. Why do you ask?" "Something about the name... It is vaguely familiar but I don't know why. Maybe it's just my meds." "You might have just heard it before." *** Cover by @_scintillas

EXTRACT: She rises and hurries to the backyard door, turning towards me with an amused expression. "Catch me if you can." She challenges me, and I'm always willing to take one on. "Oh it's on." This time I wasn't planning on letting her win. She slid the door open and ran outside onto the green grass. Faith tried to careful to avoid slipping it due to the rain. I dashed there following her. "What are you guys doing?! Are you crazy?!" Allegra yells at us from the deck by the door. "You're so slow!" Faith looks back while running. "Oh just you wait Faith-" I catch up just behind really closing to grabbing hold of her. The rain soaked her brown hair and drenched her clothes but she didn't seem to mind. The appearance of her smile was only enhanced by her wet face. I realize I'm supposed to catch her and grab her, but as soon as I do, we both find ourselves slipping onto the grass. Swish. We rested on the lawn, catching our breath from the chase. Faith hovers over me and restrains me by pressing both of my wrists. In retaliation, I flip her over the same way and secure her. "Good try." I sneer and laugh at her unsuccessful attempt. I leaned over her frame, gazing straight into her deep brown eyes, and I had no intention of removing my gaze from them in the future. I seemed to have caught her off guard and she didn't know how to react. Time slowed down for a moment, it continued to downpour, there was still grass in her hair. And out of nowhere, Faith kissed my cheek. There's no way that just happened. ************ end of extract. I won't say I knew I wouldn't fall in love with him, I knew. The very first instant, from the first glance, from that sense of unfamiliar familiarity, I knew. And I think he did too. I wouldn't say it was love at first sight, rather just a feeling like I had some ties to this person, who knows maybe in a past life. Well anyway, I did, but little did I know that the first time it would ruin me. But the second time, It healed me.

--Re-written-- When I was 8 we were playing hide and seek in the little park surrounded by bush down the street from my house. It was a large group of us. It was always fun down at the park, since our parents never really came and checked on us. Being twins, Taylor and myself had a bigger amount of freedom then the other kids in our grade, so all the parents trusted at if the Norm Twins were going to be somewhere, their kids would be safe, even though we were young. And that was always true. This particular time at the park we were playing hide and seek. It was one of our favorite games to play. Taylor, Rachel and Connor always had the best hiding spots. I loved counting. The suspense. So I was counting. We counted to 90 so everyone could get the optimal spots in the park. The deal was that we never went too far into the bush. The boulder was our guide. I counted to 90, like normal, and then started looking. There were always specific spots that people hid in, so they were my first points to check. Oddly, no one was in any of them. But to my 8 year old self that made the whole thing better. I started looking hard. But didn't find anyone. I started to call out, starting to get worried. But no one called back. --- Danielle Norm, a musician, dancer, and comitted school student, is just looking to get through school in one piece...
