After they are forced to hang out with one another on his birthday, they grow to liking one another after overhearing how the family, mostly his mother, won't approve of interracial dating. Torn by what to do, they followed their hearts to be with one another in secret even though his career was in jeopardy. After years of torture, they not only got together, but now, they may forever be apart my his meddling mother, unhappy future wife, and a best friend who can't get over the past.
