Izuku was left to build his world alone at a young age. After his mother passed away, he was sat on a throne, alone and empty. The only person he trusted had to leave due to his kind.
But Katsuki comes back three years later and Izuku doesn't want to let go, no, he wants to move their relationship further.

Sadly, unfortunate events come in the way and some people don't like the idea of that.

However, that wasn't the biggest obstacle. The confidence was missing and so was the trust.
