Fire & Ice: Never meant to mix, but works so well together
You've always been obsessed with Tony Stark, following the company closely even before he became Iron Man. He was the reason you became an engineer, but after an experiment-gone-wrong you got fire powers. S.H.I.E.L.D. knew, and decided to take you in to be a new recruit for the Avengers.
Loki never faked his death at the end of Thor: Dark World, and is stuck with his brother and the Avengers at the tower, where you two meet.

Roman was an engineer working at a very shity company. Her life is normal- wake up, eat, take her medication, go to work, get yelled at for not getting her designs approved, take the bus home, eat, collapse in the bed, and repeat it all tomorrow.
