What happens to poor, anti-social Kayson Avery when she discovers that she holds a hidden ability that's been passed down several generations in her father's side of the family?

During the summer before she becomes a senior, Kayson is forced to visit her neglectful father. It's there that Kayson learns that she's actually an Empath, someone who can sense other people's emotions beyond human capabilities and is able to manipulate others easily.

Knowing her power and it's true potential, can Kayson live up to the Avery Clan's expectations or will she choose to be her regular, normal self?
