With the introduction of eprocurement system, PSUs can now access MoD's eprocurement portal and can buy products and services online.
There are multiple benefits of the eprocurement system that PSUs can enjoy.
It reduces dependence on centralized procurement systems which used to oversee only a few suppliers. https://www.tendersontime.com/
The system has allowed entrepreneurs to innovate and grow their businesses as they now have access to many more suppliers for their products and services.
The process also helps in reducing corruption as it is more transparent than the traditional way of procurement. https://www.tendersontime.com/
The eprocurement system for PSUs under MoD was launched successfully in November 2016. It is a digital platform that facilitates procurement of goods, services, and works for 22 departments.
The system has been adopted by over 700 units across the Government. This move will save approximately Rs 50 crore annually for the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
This eprocurement platform was developed by the Defence Procurement Technology Organisation (DPTO) with support from several other government departments. The 28-year old DPTO was formed in 1988 to identify and spur innovation with regard to defence procurement in India's defence-industrial complex.
The project is a step towards digitalization of government systems and it includes an improved quality control mechanism
