Witches lurk in the shadows of the mysterious Unknown. They live in the shadows and people are advised to stay away from them, for they are evil spirits. Long ago, the Unknown was ruled by two beings; the ferocious Beast, who turned people into trees, and the Great Witch Ada. She was quite feared by the inhabitants of the Unknown, even more than the Beast himself. For that reason, the Beast killed her, living her only daughter Elsbeth alone. To take advantage of the young witch, he sent her to get rid of two boys...

A/N: This takes place in an AU where the Beast is still alive, even though Wirt and Gregory managed to leave. Enjoy!
