Yelena Sokovitz, half Russian, half Puerto Rican, lost her family when she was young. Some permanently, some not as much. She was adopted by Schneider in an attempt to grasp some form of responsibility. Luckily for him, if he did end up messing it up, Yelena knew how to take care of herself. She matured at a very young age due to her traumatic childhood, including losing her mother, being sent to an orphanage, losing touch with her older sisters, and being abandoned by her father.

To say Yelena had a rough life was an understatement. She didn't understand the importance of family. That was until she met her childhood best friend, Alex Alvarez. As Yelena discovers her past and explores her overwhelming emotions, she finds the support from Schneider, her best friend, and his family very comforting and homely.
