Monica Hemingway is an 8th grade teacher at West Oaks Middle school. At 36 years old, she is often asked to help out with the elementary students in the building next door. As she gets to know all of her students, she begins to see what is hidden beneath the surface. When one of her students takes out a gun and begins to shoot, she is reminded of her difficult childhood, wondering how far she will go to save the lives of her students. The only thing she knows, is that she can't make the same mistake again. Trigger warnings: violence, death, abuse, depression, guns, eating disorders, suicide, self-harm

Diana is falling apart at the seams. After she graduates high school, her parents kick her off their insurance and, no longer able to afford her medication for her bipolar disorder, turns to street drugs as a relief. Nobody in her life is in a rush to get her out of it. Then she overdoses. She ends up in a hospital, because she's terrified if she doesn't, she'll go to jail. While she's there, Diana meets a number of women who have all been abandoned to the system like her, and people she would normally hate become close, if temporary, friends. With their help, recovery doesn't seem so far away, after all.
