Keith had lost his family at a young age. He had to learn to fend for himself and close himself off to avoid being abandoned again. Slowly people make their way into his life that challenge his view on life and make his walls start to crumble.
He may not have had a family when he first became a paladin, but that doesn't mean that he couldn't find one along the way.
Heavily inspired by the song Home by Cavetown.

"I'm sorry!" Lance all but shouted the words, causing the smaller girl to flinch but he was already moving. Stumbling. His vision blurred with tears as he was turning away from her, escaping, his tone begging, "I'm sorry, Pidge, I'm so sorry. Please forget that this ever happened, please!" Hunk and Pidge went to a different planet to help people, and so did Coran and Allura. Shiro, Keith and Lance go on another mission to a planet where no one lives. They need to find a special living plant on the planet to make the Cryogenic Pods work properly again. Shiro choose the two boys because they always fought, but he hopes they won't now.
