Keith had lost his family at a young age. He had to learn to fend for himself and close himself off to avoid being abandoned again. Slowly people make their way into his life that challenge his view on life and make his walls start to crumble.
He may not have had a family when he first became a paladin, but that doesn't mean that he couldn't find one along the way.
Heavily inspired by the song Home by Cavetown.

Keith had always been different. He always avoided as much contact with people as possible. Even as a Paladin of Voltron, he never tried to connect with people. He was, difficult, to say the least. [ COMPLETED ] "We're going home." ~~~ The team had defeated Lotor and left him amongst the quintessence, and were now returning to Earth. Many of them thought this was long waited and were very excited. Lance was going to see his siblings, and meet his nephew for the first time. Keith was going to show his Mum around, her not having seen the place in 18 years. Pidge's family was finally going to be reunited. Hunk was going to see his mother again! Shiro was hoping to help out the garrison with gathered information, and enjoy his time with the fellow paladins. Allura, Coran and Romelle were going to learn the culture of earthlings. They were all set for an adventure and fun time. What they were faced with was not the Earth the knew and love. ~~~ "My family. They're all gone. Keith. Although, to his satisfaction, he swallowed any stupid comments or sounds. Except one- "You look like a chipmunk." Lance laughed, ruffling Keith's hair before disappearing out of the door and into the hallway. "Hey!" He shouted, tripping over his own feet as he scrambled upwards. The door clicked shut softly. From either side of the door, each boy had a moment of clarity, a soft smile adorned their face. Maybe this situation isn't that horrible. And, Lance was hungry. That too. - in which keith has been exposed to a mysterious gas, forcing his galra traits to bubble to the surface. and with this comes the troubles of accepting the other half of him, even after the galra captured his people. all the while lance has to deal with the fact that keith was brought here by red, the extension of his own quintessence. he's still struggling to grasp his own life.. what does it all mean anymore? (and the burning crushes they have on one another!)Complete

"I don't care what Hunk said," Keith interrupted, his voice sharper this time. "You don't owe anyone an explanation. If you want to be with Allura, go for it. But make sure it's because you want to, not because you think you should. If Allura asks you out, just say yes or no. You don't owe anyone anything when it comes to your feelings." Lance looked up at Keith, his blue eyes searching for something in his face. Keith's heart gave an unexpected jolt, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he slowly rested his head against Lance's, both of them turning their attention to the sunset as it deepened in color. Keith couldn't hold Lance's gaze for too long. "Okay," Lance murmured, shifting to get more comfortable against Keith. Lance stared out at the horizon. "Everything's so beautiful out here." "It is," Keith agreed, his voice quieter now. (What if Lance had frozen and couldn't ask Allura out on a date in Season 8, Episode 1? Instead, Lance realizes his feelings for Keith and asks him out on a date. **First Klance fic Lance and Keith were always neck and neck and rivals. They rarely spoke to each other and only knew things about each other that they told the whole team, Shiro, Pidge, Hunk, Coran and Allura. They were always off doing their own things and never did things together unless it was for a mission. On such a mission the team got split up. Hunk and Pidge went to a different planet to help people, and so did Coran and Allura. Shiro, Keith and Lance go on another mission to a planet where no one lives. They need to find a special living plant on the planet to make the Cryogenic Pods work properly again. Shiro choose the two boys because they always fought, but he hopes they won't now. When the mission is near Earth, Lance gets extremely homesick. Maybe, they end up taking a visit... Start: February 23, 2017 End: March 15, 2017Complete

"I'm sorry!" Lance all but shouted the words, causing the smaller girl to flinch but he was already moving. Stumbling. His vision blurred with tears as he was turning away from her, escaping, his tone begging, "I'm sorry, Pidge, I'm so sorry. Please forget that this ever happened, please!" And then, he was running from the room, struggling to muffle the sobs that were wracking his chest but failed. He left her in silence. Only, the silence wasn't so silent.
