Now Elaine is forced to face the past she preferred to leave far behind as she searches for her sister with the help of the Captain of the Guard, Gunter, who she might have been harboring secret feelings for since they were kids. But the captain has secrets of his own, ones he's reluctant to share, and he may or may not accept Elaine's own secrets, ones she had hoped would never see the light of day. Together, they head for the king's mountain estate where they hope to find safety from the assassins who took Elaine's sister, assassins who might have been after a different target altogether.
