Fresh out of college, a young man sets off on a zig-zag path through West Africa by truck, train, boat, donkey cart and foot. He carries a map, a compass, and a canvas pack stuffed with everything he owns. With a rough plan to head to the Sahara, he meets a cast of characters who change his plans.
