Sirius Black doesn't know why he started to do it. Maybe it was because his parents hated him, because they abused him when he came home for breaks. It could be because he was failing every class, or because he had slept with so many girls he'd lost count. Maybe its the internalized homophobia?
But Sirius knows that the biggest reason as to why he picked up the shiny metal was because of the unrequited love he feels for his best friend, Remus Lupin.
