Wren and Jay's parents were once friends - they set the world on fire together. However, in the fall out of their actions, a deep cut formed in the middle of their group; now, they're strangers. Enemies. They communicate (only when they must) through diplomats, always formal, but never friendly. The only time they come face to face is at the annual burning ball - on the anniversary of their arson. Every year the ball runs smoothly, an action ensured by the many servants attending their commanders' every need, however when that is destroyed, will they be able to work together again? More importantly, if they cannot, can their children?
