Aileen is a sixteen year old girl who always sees the best in people. After spending her childhood in England, she returns to Japan in the period of decay of the samurai. With the help of Ikawa, his best friend, he begins to adapt to his new life, until a mysterious illness strikes the residents of the city in which they live. It is then that the two find themselves on a journey in search of a cure.
During this adventure, they meet Nara, whose health is very fragile, and Kasigi, a samurai who is reluctant to abandon the old ways. Together they will have to face hunger, cold, tiredness and whatever else lies ahead. And this battle will be even tougher for Alieen, who will try to discover her origins, will fight to transform Kasigi into the good person she was and will know love in a painful and unexpected way.
