The sole daughter of Yaqup, conquerer and saviour of Midilli, Deniz Hatun only knew life on the island.

Despite the meaning of her name, she despised the sea, this hate merely disguising what she felt about it. After a misfortunate event as a child, Deniz was scarred for life and vowed never to sit near the forbidding sea, let alone sail like her famous elder brother, whom they called Baba Oruc.

When her younger twin, Ilyas, and Oruc dreamt of sailing across the Seven Seas to spread hope within the oppressed and strike fear in the oppressors, they left behind their three siblings.

While Oruc and Ilyas settled in Iskenderye, journeying across the seas on missions, Ishak, the eldest brother, Hizir, a few years younger, and Deniz, the youngest of three, stayed in the land of their father, Midilli.

Deniz was happy with her life as it was, not too fond of swords, battles, and ships like the eldest. She spent the past ten years of her life playing with her nephews, helping her sister-in-law, reading her brothers' letters, working as a well-known trader, and, recently, a doctor.

But one cursed day, everything changes. There are no more nephews to play with, no more sister-in-law to help out, no more letters to read or write, and no more goods to trade.

All because of the Black Pirate.

Destroyed was her simple life, and thousands of calamities rained on her family like a black cloud. Deniz bottled up her feelings. She moved on and helped her brothers, keeping her distance from the sea.

But alas, her fear confronts her. Her fear of drowning.

All because of the Kara Korsan.
