What would you do if just a bit of pain led to a life change?

I have no clue what to do as a description, so instead take that one question.
Heavy TW: Murder, Trauma, Abuse, mention of Suicide, Self-Harm, fire.
If there's a specific tw for a chapter, it'll be marked at the beginning of the chapter.
I know that I also have another story with less chapters, that one is discontinued for now.
