Mace is just a demon who was resurrected in a more people-pleasing form after being defeated by the second Reaper, Moon, after he was controlled by a dark force. He's just have a normal evening when a dream comes to him, one that may forewarn something dark coming.
The dream, of course, consisted of humans, something he always considered to be nothing but food to satisfy his hunger. But when he dreams about a deceased female human that gave birth to a daughter and his seemingly look-alike, something awakens inside the insensitive demon. And, as much as he doesn't want to admit it,
that dream may just mean the entire world to him.
