This is the story of Marie Anderson, a young girl growing up during world war two. Raised with Jewish beliefs, she and her family are put at risk when the Nazis invade Amsterdam and nearby cities. She and her family go into hiding but when offeredSoon Marie and her family are captured and they fight to escape from the concentration camp they are sent to. They are finally able to escape but soon they are being searched for. They head back to they're hometown where Marie finds out that her best friends were killed in the gas chambers at a concentration camp. Despite the fact that Marie has lost her best friends, she and her family make the long journey from Holland all the way to America for a better life. Once Marie arrives in America, she has to attend school, learn a whole new language, and she wonders, was it really worth it to leave Holland or should she and her family stayed behind but constantly be on the move from the nazis?
