"It's a fake kiss, Sherlock, for our fake relationship. Surely you can suffer through it for a moment or two." John's words sound more hurt than he thinks he means them to, and Sherlock chooses not to delve deeper. They each should get a pass while navigating such unfamiliar territory.

"For science," he finally says.

Five months after John's world has fallen apart, Mycroft sends the consulting detective and his doctor on a case that neither is prepared for.

Because It's True

8 parts Complete

Sherlock couldn't believe what he was hearing: what she was asking was the impossible, wasn't it? Closing his eyes again he tried to say it the way she wanted it. "I... love you." It sounded more forced than the actual truth, causing him to shake his head violently. Taking another shaky breath, Sherlock searched his inner thoughts. He remembered every moment they spent together; every conversation; every laugh; every awkward moment; every cup of coffee; every unspoken word; every kiss on the cheek; every minute he wished he had spent admiring her beauty. He recalled every one of those short moments of emotion and put it into just three little words: "I love you." Edited: 11.21.2020
