When Severus Snape is told that he must hand-deliver Harry Potter's Hogwarts letter, he expects a spoiled brat, ready to come to school and lord his status over his classmates. But what he finds is something entirely different. Potter is anything but arrogant, a child neglected and abused by his relatives.

Harry never believed that he was anyone special. He never imagined that he was part of a secretive magical world, or that he was famous. Now he must navigate Hogwarts, a school for witches and wizards, and all the strange new politics that come with being the Heir of House Potter and the Boy-Who-Lived.

Sorted into Slytherin, much to the surprise of the school, he is immediately painted with a dark brush. But being an outcast is nothing new for Harry. With the support of Professors Snape and Quirrell, he just might make it through his first year - if he can resist the temptation of the third-floor corridor.
