Adrien, at age eighteen, was instated as the King of Effulgence after his father's death. Three years later, he finds himself at war with Rayland, a power-hungry kingdom with a much stronger army. Left in seemingly hopeless situation, he's grasping at straws, when he learns an assassin was sent from Rayland to end his life has been taken captive.
Adrien hopes this killer might be the key to ending the war, only to find the assassin is much more than he expects--and is linked to something deeper. Beyond the battlefield, a darker, unknown power is rising. There is a threat that surpasses that of ordinary men, hidden beneath scattered visions and unlocked secrets have been buried for far too long, and are finally resurfacing.
