After losing her parents, Charmaine needed to live with the real wife of his father and their daughter who did nothing but cause her pain. After a heated argument with her half-sister, it appeared to her that she was a lost cause.
As if on cue, the malicious comments her half-sister gave her matched with the winter season, and Charmaine had the time of her life outside in an exquisite vast field.
The girl, together with the frosty breeze and the snowflakes against her cheeks, found herself a friend who was worth seeing her falling apart as he gently hugged her frozen heart.

The first in the Gone trilogy. βPeople change. Memories don't. β I had that one person. That one person who would be my brightness in the dullest of days (trust me, there were a lot) just by gracing me with his presence. The frown that was permanently etched on my face would always seemingly dissipate into the happiness I felt when we'd meet up, running into his arms like he was my safe place. "Your hair is full of snow," He chuckled as he looked at her, reaching out to push a strand of hair behind her ear. Some snow successfully fell off her, but he didn't withdraw his hand. He cupped her cheek, wiping away a few snowflakes from it. She was frozen, staring at him like a deer caught in headlights, her heart pounding in her chest. Then, raising his other hand, he cupped her cheeks fully. His eyes began to trace every inch of her face; her eyes, her cheeks, her nose, before his gaze dropped to her lips.
