(I wrote this book a while ago then deleted it. I decided to rewrite because I happened to like the concept and the plot in mind. If there are any stories similar, I apologize because I didn't know. For all I know this is one of a kind.)
It's finally here. The 100th hunger games. I always feared this day since I was never reaped. 3 years ago when I turned 12. There's no dought in my mind I will be reaped but I know with my skills I can overcome it. The only problem is, my parents Peeta and Katniss Mellark, are coming with me.

We all know the story of the Mockingjay Rebellion. We know her story. But have you ever wondered what it was like on the home front, in District 12? This story is Gale's, his outlook on the games, his feelings about his best friend's situation, and his interactions with the people of District 12. The story is set during the time period of "The Hunger Games" (book one of the trilogy). It is written from the perspective of Gale Hawthorne, and does not concern any events in books two and three. This is my first fan fiction, my first "real" attempt at long form prose writing, and my first Wattpad story. I appreciate constructive feedback, but please, no hate. While the characters and some plot points are based off of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games Trilogy, (which I in no way own the rights to) I have created this story using my own imagination. **WARNING CONSTRUCTION**I WROTE MOST OF THIS WHEN I WAS TWELVE-THIRTEEN. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING HALF THE TIME I WAS AN O-K WRITER. AND TRUST ME IT GETS BETTER AS IT GOES (I'm 17 now) The cold air hits me, awakening my nerves. My piece of mind. The fire that rages on in the fireplace is glowing so bright and bringing warmth to me but also darkness. Fire always reminds of dark cold memories. The girl on fire! As I sleep the nightmares come, I wake screaming till my throat starts to become raw. Mutts, tracker jackers, Gale, Prim, Peeta being taken away, Peeta choking me, monkeys tearing at my flesh, children burning, the games. The kids would usually wake up but now they are used to it. After a few years they realize Mommy and Daddy are okay.But Peeta will never get used to it his arms are always there to comfort me, protect me. Then eventually his lips to please me, to make me forget. "Always" SUMMARY: Long after the games Peeta and Katniss live in their beloved home of District 12 with their children. District 12 holds many memories of the past. The past is a burden to carry and it may never leave them. New things will rise in District 12. Will peace ever come? After the games have been destroyed, they thought it would be all over, life may never be perfect again. The future after destruction isn't always what you've dreamed of. "Look, it's your favorite color." I point at the light orange of the sunset. I hear a faint rustling, and I turn over to see Peeta looking at me instead of the sky. "You remembered," he whispers. "I remember everything about you," I reply, repeating his words to me. I expect to regret my honesty, feeling like I've shared too much. But I feel like I haven't shared enough. I want to tell him everything about himself, to prove just how much I remember. But I don't. We just watch each other until the orange fades into dusky blue. ➳➳➳ In the years following the dismantling of the Hunger Games, Katniss rekindles the fire between her and Peeta. Over time, they grow back together, relearning to love every part of each other. Moving on from the war isn't easy, especially when Katniss still revisits her greatest fears and worst memories every night. But Peeta is always there, keeping the nightmares away, keeping her safe. However, though the world is changed, it will never truly be safe. ➳➳➳ The years following the war. Post canon, basically what leads to the epilogue. CW: Mild sexual content, violence, death, pregnancy, panic attacks PSA, there will be canon divergence, and the later books will get pretty dark.
