Iris' grandmother would always tell her about a time when specials and normals were actually civil with each other. A time where it didn't matter whether you had specials blood or not, but that was over eighty years ago. Laws were passed and invisible barriers were built between the two strangely different populations, to the point where the past was a nothing but a distant memory. There are many rumors that attempt to explain why the two groups could no longer say a measly greeting to each other. However, the real reason was obvious to everyone. Mutts. They are the offspring of a special and normal and are looked down on, even more so than those who don't hold a special ability. The one law that society has instilled into everyone's mind, the very first one made in the new establishment of society: An 'impure' relationship will come with consequence. Everyone knew that mutts weren't harmful, or dangerous for that matter, but it was seen as a vulgar thing to have mixed blood in the eyes of many. There's no telling if they would be born with a special ability or not, and that in itself disturbs the order that took forever to establish. Iris and her grandmother both had one thing in common. Neither favored the laws that are continuing to tear the population apart. But neither, in fact, nobody expected one of the specials to be against a society that puts them on a pedestal . So when Braylon Torres, the son of one of the most well-known specials couples and one of the few who possesses the special ability of fire, rebels against it, the whole town goes crazy. All except a certain normals girl who is nothing but curious as to what, or who, his reason for retaliation would be.
