Anna is a 17-year-old high school student navigating a life that's just bearable. With a hardworking mom and a controlling aunt, she manages excellent grades.
Then there's Tyler Kingsley: rude, tattooed, and the kind of guy every girl seems drawn to. But to Anna, he's exactly the kind of person you wouldn't dare introduce to your mother.
"What else can I get for you, Tyler?" I asked, secretly hoping he'd just leave me alone.
"I'll take one of those," he said with that infuriating smirk, nodding at me as he took a sip of water.
"Keep dreaming, asshole," I shot back.
"You don't even know me, sweetheart, and you're already judging," he countered, leaning in just a little too close.
"I know enough. And don't call me that," I muttered, locking eyes with him.
"You know, I'm actually doing you a favor," he said, nodding towards a rowdy group of men in the corner. "If I wasn't here, you'd be dealing with them. Trust me, that's not something you'd want."
I've always tried to see deeper in people. It's like this instinct I've had since I was little-to realize there's often more than meets the eye.
