This idea was started back in the 1400s in Germany, when a clever man-made a 3D perspective by taking wooden cutout frames and sliding them behind each other, in a wooden box. The Victorians rediscovered this unique idea. Their frames were made from paper. They took those frames and secured them to paper pleated sides. The Tunnel Book opened like an accordion. They were sold as souvenirs, to adults. Those Tunnel Books depicted special events, like stage productions from West End London Theater Shows.
I have come along 100 years later and reformatted The Tunnel Book to be used as a new tool for children. The Tunnel Book gives children a new perspective to inspire them, to read and like books. The books attract their attention, as they look through the peephole! These books can compete with other modern-day media. They can stand alongside such other childhood interests, like games.
I spent a lot of years taking these books to Elementary Schools to test their acceptance, with little hands. They all loved them. This convinced me, that I developed a winner.
Right now, my books are handmade one at a time. Until I can pile enough money together, to have them printed professionally. Bookstores only want professionally published books. I can understand their position.
I have created so far 15 different titles covering childhood interests. Themes cover Dinosaurs, Pirates, Planets, Cats, Flowers, Birds, Math, and many more. My Tunnel Books are either informative, educational, or storytelling.
This book has 26 African animals all seen on 8 frames when pulled out for viewing. There is a peephole that must be looked into to see all the animals presented in 3D. There is a booklet attached to the book which identifies each animal with information about the animal.
