Annika's just a simple teenager in senior high. She's got friends, stable grades, beauty and a loving family. By that family, Annika's parents died when she was 13 and she and her siblings came to live with their cousins, Celia and Reiner. 
Though when Annika's parents died, for some reason she was happy and finally felt free, the same feeling her siblings Astra and Archer.
When Annika was a month from turning 18, something happened or someone happened, and a time where she was so close on seeing her parents once again until he came and gave her another chance to live.
