"Believe nothing you hear and only one half that you see". Edgar Allen Poe Rhai Simmons lived by this quote. It gave her peace, it made her calm and it was said by her favorite poet. The words held a lot of weight in her life, it controlled her dreams when she was asleep and it kept her sane when she was awake because for her his words encompassed her struggles. These words however will take on a whole new meaning when she meets Tavi. "Who's Edgar Allen Poe"? Tavi questions curiously while skimming through my poetry book." Only the greatest poet who ever lived" Rhai responds staring at the ceiling as if she was in a trance, "Some people said he was crazy, A maniac even but I disagree, he was just intoxicated with the euphoric feelings words brought. He wrote with such an intensity and spoke with such carefree abandon not caring what people thought but only expressing his thoughts no matter how dark it got and I respect that. He was honest and that translated to insanity for many because the truth scares people." Tavi stared at Rhai, she has always been such a mystery to her not because she didn't know Rhai but because no matter how much you knew her there was always more to know, she pulled you in but it wasn't towards the light it was towards darkness, her darkness. "Who's Rhai?" Rhai shifted her vision from the ceiling to look at Tavi, eyebrows scrunched. Tavi shifted her head to the side staring back at Rhai. Breaking eye contact Rhai switches her gaze back to the ceiling, "I don't know". The atmosphere in the room shifted, it was a simple question but it held a lot of weight "I don't know who I am".

Writer's Note - This story is a deeply personal journey, dedicated to myself. Many of the sad parts reflect real-life experiences, while the happy moments, feelings, and endings are surreal-woven from the threads of dreams I couldn't realize. In real life, I couldn't find a happy ending with someone I cared for so deeply. Perhaps we'll never cross paths again. But through this story, I wanted to give myself the happy ending that life didn't grant me.To anyone reading, I hope you find joy, reflection, and perhaps a touch of healing within these pages. Thank you for sharing in this part of me.
