When a late-summer stroll through an orchard ends with the crown princess being kidnapped, the kingdom of Brenmir is upturned. With its king distraught and Brenmerian soldiers sent to rescue the princess, the stubborn Princess Rosalyn can't bear to sit idly by. There's unrest on the border, there are apparently enemies in their midst, and her best friend is now in the hands of those enemies. Rosalyn is no soldier, but she will do all she can to make sure she doesn't lose her sister to barbarians, and she will not let the arrogant Captain Rowan get in her way. Even if he is as stubborn as she is.
