Sometimes in life we find ourselves in situations where we are helpless, while other times we are unable to help. My wife has cancer, something I cannot help her with - I can't cure the disease. As I do my best to support her through this fight, I have chosen to write about her struggles from my perspective. I'm posting this looking for some feedback. Any constructive criticism will be greatly appreciated. Writing has always provided me with solace, by helping me to sort through and frame my emotional experience. During one of the more difficult times in my life--recognizing a toxic marriage and leaving--I used writing to understand what was happening. The poems, short stories, and essays here reflect my fragmented journey toward mental health. Works of art, they are not. However, I hope they can help others with their own journeys, even if only to provide comfort in knowing that they are not alone. A Strange Kind of Beautiful by -taraxacum-

Trapped in pages are words I've never spoken. An overwhelming happiness, grief, and love. A walking poem and the hidden poet. To admire from afar and to be loved silently. Surrender my sorrows and bleed on paper and since then I kept this story sacred. A reminder how I made it. A chapter where I stumbled, how crushed and crumbled but still survived. Only with a pen and a heart to mend. I lived.

Diagnosed with cancer at the young age of 25, I kept a journal through surgery and treatment, wrote humorous (or just uncomfortable) short stories and irreverent poems about my experiences. I'm not going to pretend that I have amazing words of wisdom about dealing with the deadly disease. This is a raw, unreserved look at dealing with some real shit in a funny way.
